HACETTEPE UNIVERSITY - MACSABAL WOOD FIRING SYMPOSIUM 2011
A country’s social, cultural and economic development and reaching contemporary levels become possible thanks to the advances it achieves in the fields of art, science and technology. Today, ceramic education is provided at university level, contributing greatly to progress of art, culture and science in our country. As ceramic departments of Faculties of Fine Arts have curricula also covering technology, they are nurtured by the collaboration between the industry and the university. Associations like Turkish Ceramics Association (TSD) also contribute to this synergy.
TSD, accommodating the triad of art, industry and science in its body, holds regular events in the name of the art and science of ceramics. It provides contribution to the “Hacettepe University-Macsabal Wood Firing Symposium” to be hosted by Hacettepe University President’s Office and undertaken by Ceramics Department. It is scheduled that this event will be held upon completion of the Macsabal Food Firing Kiln by Korean fine artist Kim, Yong Moon who has been serving as a foreign guest instructor in our department. A working environment will be offered to the invited artists during the applied symposium for Monumental Ceramic Applications or murals to be fired in the kiln to be presented by Kim, Yong Moon to Hacettepe University.
To ensure proliferation of monumental statues and murals in university campuses, similar art events are being held globally and in Turkey. To carry the universal language of art to the campus we live in and to introduce art to students will allow society to gain environmental awareness. A human being who is able to perceive his/her environment more sensitively is an educated human being. Art increases perception and the individual. Art education is a matter which concerns not only the individual receiving that education but also the society which can affect and change the environment with its works at the same degree. A work is not just an object created unilaterally but has a shared and developed value. Art cannot made to exist without this mutual relationship. This project was prepared as a prerequisite for capturing the age and as it is necessary to see original contemporary works around us.
It is hoped that local administrations and Governor’s Office of Ankara will contribute as much as associations and the industry to the ceramic art.
Ten Turkish fine artists and ten foreigners from other countries will be invited to this event to be held at international level who will leave the works they produce during the 8-day period to Hacettepe University.
